The Suburban collection as a whole is a high-pressure, don't ask questions, don't be an educated buyer, pain. *I leased a Mazda 6 and when it was time for the renewal, I went to Suburban to discuss new vehicles. *I wanted to drive the Mazda 3 manual. *None in stock, so we drove the automatic. *Jean-Joseph, the sales person, started out driving the car from the dealer!!! *What did I care if he drove? *Then we switched in a grocery store parking lot about 1/2 mile away. *He then proceeded to play his Reggae CD to demonstrate the car's stereo, loudly. *I may be 29, but I don't blast the stereo anymore and don't expect a sales person to. *After the test drive he pulled the "what will it take to get you into this car right now". *Answer - I won't take this car. *I want a manual, and I have to shop around. *He asks what cars I'm checking, I say the Civic, Fit, Versa, Sentra. *He tells me "You don't want a Fit or a Versa - A "real" guy wouldn't want that, they sound too ..." and stopped. *I know he wanted to say gay. *Not an appropriate comment. *I tell him to follow-up with me when he has a manual in stock. *He calls me the next two days and I continue to push for the manual - a week later he has it in stock. I go to test drive the manual, and see there are new specials on the Mazda 6. *He pulls the 3 up and wants to walk me around the car again. *I tell him not needed, I know the car. *He then quizzes me on the engine displacement, 2.3 - same as my 6; horsepower - 156, same as my 6, tires, then goes to Torque. *I say, I don't know the torque, what is it. *His answer - I don't know it either! *Now he's just being condescending. *After the test drive, he didn't drive this time, we come back to the dealer. *I tell him I want the prices on the 3 Manual, 6i Sport Value Edition manual and 6i Sport Value Edition Automatic. *He says the manager will only work on one vehicle at a time, so I tell him to go get a price, bring it to me, then go back and get the next one and so on - I want all three in front of me at once. *He proceeds to come back with a ridiculous quote on the 3 and I ask him to go get the other quotes. *He pulls the "what will it take to get you into this 3" and writes the whole "I will take this car and this price immediately" contract thing - and I tell him $240 from his $335. *He goes to see the sales manager - I'm thinking to get my quotes on the 6 - and comes back with the sales manager who tells me that I am way off, if I want to consider something else, maybe he can work that price. *I ask the sales manager where the prices for the 6 are and he proceeds to tell me I don't want the 6 - it's not the right car for me. *Needless to say I get up, tell him "I have been happy with my Mazda 6 for two years - it is the right car for me" and that I will be back only to turn in my current vehicle. * Not once has Jean-Joseph called to follow-up or make any amends. *He let the potential sale walk. My biggest frustration is that in a 45 minute drive radius from my home, there are three Mazda dealers, two of which are Suburban Collection dealers. *This makes price comparisons difficult. * |
