The most onerous car-shopping experience I have ever had. I drove an hour to LAKE NORMAN to take advantage of the cash for clunkers program. I tested a vehicle with a sticker price of $27,900 (after upgrades, etc). My clunker qualified for the $3500 government allowance. I sat there for two hours before anyone gave me a price and they told me I would owe $26,003 dollars after my discount. They refused to give an itemized list of what the additional costs were. I don't have to have a new vehicle so I left but I am truly worried about consumers in a panic to qualify for the Cash for Clunkers being duped by car dealers . Anyone who has had experience buying a new vehicle knows that even without a trade-in, I would have been able to walk away with this vehicle for $26K. It burns me up that the government is trying to help the consumer by giving them this discount and then UNETHICAL dealers like TOYOTA of LAKE NORMAN jack up the price to increase profits. Their stake in this should be increased sales, not increased profits per vehicle in a time when consumers are hurting so badly. Shame on them and their unethical practices!!!
