The day of the sale everything went fine. I bought a used Volkswagen Bettle. The salesman was nice but was very vague when answering my questions about the car. He claimed that he had wanted to sell the car to his girlfriend and that it was in good working order. I test drove it and it seemed fine so I bought it. about three days later the check engine light came on. It took me a few days to get to a mechanic. I took it to Fisher Tire in Knoxville and they said that the Catilitic Converter was not working according to the code that was causing the check engine light to be on. They also said that it was illegal to see a car with this part not working. They could not fix this part and refered me to Kar Kare who also said that is was illegal to sell a car with this not working. I called Rice and talked to the salesman who sold me the car and he said they were not going to do anything about this. He also said I might try to go to the Volkswagen dealership and see if the car had an existing warrenty on that part. I also had paid for a protective coating to be put on the car by the dealership and asked my salesperson if I could set up an appointment to have this put on while I had him on the phone. I live in Johnson City and would not be back in town for two weeks. He said to call back closer to the time I would be back and set up an appointment then. He did not help to fix their wrong doing and also he could not even be bothered to set an appointment for a product I have already paid for. I am outraged. This is very poor customer service.
