We bought a used 99 Subaru Legacy Wagon from Rudy Luther Toyota. When we went to look at it we called ahead and they said they'd have it ready for us. Well it took them 45 minutes to bring it up. They told us it had been looked at and needed no repairs. Luckily I didn't take their word for it because it needed $1,200 in repairs. Always have a 3rd party pre-purchase inspection done. No matter what they tell you. A CV boot was cracked and it had major oil leaks, among other things. These are not the kinds of things that could be missed. They knew what was wrong and they lied about it. After raising a stink I was able to talk them down to account for the repairs. I even got the CV repaired under warranty. After that repair the car starting pulling right. It was later determined that it was from sloppy reassembly after installing the CV which is rare and takes a monumental lack of quality control. All they did to fix it was switch the tires around. 3 weeks later it started pulling again which is when the sloppy work was discovered. We wound up being very happy with the car but I could have easily spent way too much for it and I had to fight them every step of the way just to get a satisfactory experience. Bottom line is that they will lie to you every time to make a sale and the service department is just plain terrible. Do not go to this overpriced service department unless your car is under warranty and even then you must demand that they fix it right, because they will cut corners if you let them. It's not that you shouldn't buy from them, just be very careful or they will screw you.
