This dealership carries mostly Lexus and Toyota. When you visit a real Lexus dealership, not a used car sales lot like this one; they treat you with respect and courtesy. This dealership profiles people and then treats them rudely when they make very poor assumptions. They should go work for a real Lexus dealership and learn some class and salesmanship.
We have been looking to purchase a white Lexus IS F as a company car for me. I’m the president of a successful business. Today we saw on AutoTrader.com that Smith Family Motors had one on the lot. I drove up with an employee who owned an older Lexus with 80,000 miles on it. I myself have owned a Lexus before and both of us were very excited to finally test drive and hopefully purchase an IS F.
Driving 50 miles, upon our arrival and having asked the only visible salesperson if he could get the keys for a test drive, he came out, unlocked and opened the doors and said, “No one is allowed to drive this car.” “Why not?” I asked. “Because it’s an IS F.” We were just shocked. I even asked, “Could you drive it for a test drive?” “No”.
We drove off and then turned back around. We entered the building and asked for the owner. Sure enough, the salesman was the owner. He started to explain that he thought we had just finished test driving one of their “older” Lexus and had assumed we couldn’t possibly afford the IS F. After some back and forth one of his employees thought he was so smart and claimed we were “jerks”. I’m pretty sure most people having driven 50 miles in excitement would be as shocked as we were to be told three different times, “No you can’t test drive this car.”
How hard would it have been to say, “We are very selective who can test drive this IS F. It’s an incredible and legitimate muscle car. Have you ever driven one before?” He then could have asked a few more questions to find out if we could afford the car.
How hard would it have been when we returned to apologize and defuse the situation? Instead he insulted us. Instead of being rewarded for our brand loyalty, we were profiled and treated rudely.
I have looked and test driven Mercedes, BMWs and other cars much more valuable than their Lexus IS F at $48,000. Not one car salesman at those lots has been rude.
Sad to say if I could have test driven there IS F, our company probably would have paid cash and purchased the car. Instead, we will look elsewhere.
I’d also like to say that their selection at auction must undergo the same lack of perception. Three of the four rims have been demolished by the previous owner and should be replaced before anyone willing and able to pay their high price drives it off the lot. They are also asking thousands more for a car that has almost double the mileage we are seeing nationally on 2008 IS Fs for their asking price.
