Default Does anyone know about the transaxles to a mazda 3 hatchback 2004?

i have a mazda 3 hatchback 2004 and some AT light went on, Im not sure what it means but its jumping when i put it in reverse or any gear for that matter, Plus i cant get it to go faster than 40 mph, it wont catch the next gear, I read the manual and it says to take it to the mazda dealer, but I dont have alot of money and i know the dealer is way more expensive... Do I have any other options?
