Default Car Dealer Charged With Unfair Business Practices

A Vacaville auto dealership has been accused of engaging in unfair business practices involving more than 100 customers, Solano County prosecutors said.

Vacaville Ford used false advertising, failed to pay off loans on trade-in vehicles and sold vehicles to which the dealership didn't possess legal title, Solano County District Attorney David Paulson said Friday.

The civil complaint filed in Solano County Superior Court alleges the dealership committed multiple violations of the California Business and Professions Code. Dealership executives Bryan White, Shelli Mohr and Carl Chenault and Ford Motor Co. and Ford Motor Credit were also named in the complaint.

"Ford Motor Company and Ford Motor Credit Company were aware of these practices for the past three-plus years after receiving numerous complaints from consumers, and failed to take any action," Paulson said in a statement.

Vacaville Ford did not immediately respond Saturday to a call from The Associated Press.

The charges carry more than $200,000 in penalties and possible restitution for the involved customers, Paulson said.
