Default Trailer size and fuel economy?

I have an 8x16 foot trailer that when I tow it I get approx 7mpg. How much, if any, would I gain if I were to downsize to a 6x12?

Tow vehicle is a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer with the I6 engine. Either trailer is well within the limits of the truck.

are you talking about an enclosed trailer?

yeah, dropping the width will have less of a parachute effect lowering the wind drag on the tow vehicle. likewise, you can add one of the aerodynamic bubbles on the nose of either one to drastically reduce the drag also.

we used to drag a 7x16 enclosed bike trailer behind a diesel suburban all over the state to various races and got about 10 mpg ... we found one of the plastic bubbles for the front that we installed and our mileage jumped to about 14.

if you are referring to a flat bed, more than likely, your mileage will increase going to the smaller trailer with less drag also and more than likely a much lighter trailer too...

I don't know why the mileage is so poor, unless the trailer is heavy and you're drag racing between traffic lights.

A small decrease in trailer size won't do a thing for mileage. Sorry to disappoint you. Driving conservatively does help. As an example, I added an aftermarket bumber and camper shell to my truck, weighing over 1000 pounds and decreasing aerodyamics. Initially, mileage dropped 3-4 mpg. When I started driving conseratively, though, my mileage went right back up to where it had been before.
