SAAB Key Fob. Changed battery, and Key still won't turn.?

I have a 1999 SAAB 9-3 witha key fob / remote control / key extender - separate from the Key. The key won't turn in the ignition anymore.

I changed the battery in the FOB. (CR2032... although the old battery MIGHT say CR2033. The last number had been scuffed.)

The key still won't turn. Is there a re-set somewhere in the car? Could this still be a simple fix or do I need a technician and a larger expense?

In opening the FOB I damaged the casing slightly. Th hinge-point or the release catch wouldn't work so I just pried it apart. The catch area is cracked but what's there looks like elastic and not electrical. It doesn't appear to have anything to do with the function.
