Default Will a K&N air intake hurt my truck in anyway???????

I have a 2000 chevy silverado and am thinking of putting the K&N cold air intake on it I went to my local dealer to order it and they said if i bought it they would refuse to put it on they say it causes too many problems, and dont want to see a good truck hit the dirt. But they said the mopar air intake is better and that is worth getting. The only thing is they are a mopar dealer, are they just trying to sell me something more expensive and benefits them or is it worth it. I have also read online that the K&N intakes cause the engine light to come on. Please help

I love my K&N cold air intake!
Pros: More horse power, better gas mileage, filters last forever and they look awesome.
Cons: They cost $350-$400, they totally suck to install, filters somewhat suck to clean and (mine) always came loose until I used nylock nuts and it never came loose again.
Hope that this helps you!
