My 2002 Hyundai Accent's gas tank has a problem?

I have a very annoying problem. Every time that I go to fill up the gas in the car, the automatic shut off of the pump activates, making it gruelingly slow to fill up. I have to hold the trigger just enough for a slow pump, if I press too hard the pump handle stops like the tank is full. This started a couple of years ago and I can't figure out why this is happening, it just makes it more of a chore to fill up the tank. I get what activates the shut off of the pump, the splash back of the actual gas. Doesn't matter what gas station, I've tried to have the nozzle just barely in the tank, I've tried different nozzle angles, nothing seems to work. Any ideas of why this might be happening?
