Will a car dealership write me a check for a trade in?

I have a car that we still owe 5000 on but we borrowed the money from my wifes parents rather than a bank. We want to get a more fuel efficient car but dont what to have to wait to sell it outright. If I go to a dealership that has what I want will they write me a check for teh trade in value so that we can pay back my in laws?

I don't think the dealer can do a cash out financing deal. But you can ask? You can also try selling it to Car max but your best deal is to sell it your self to a private party.
