Noisy 2000 Audi A4 1.8T?

I just drove a the Audi and it seemed rather noisy. Not so much engine noise, but like wind and tire noise. It was as loud as a civic...is this normal? Is the A4 simply not sound insulated as well as it should be?
Actually it was as loud as a Honda Fit. and the suspension was a bit harsh as well.
