2001 Chevy Impala Whats my best option?

So heres the problem I have a 2001 Chevy Impala. I got into a car accident and its a long story, but the insurance isn't involved and everything is good; the only problem is the air bag went off and the car is running with out an air bag. The motor and everything is good, but I've heard the air bag can get up to 5000 dollars. The cars not worth that much. So I was thinking buy an impala just the body with a blown engine and switching the engines. A mechanic said he will do that for 600 dollars. So the question is what is the best option I have.
