Default What is the most cost effective new car over 10 years of ownership?

I know things like fuel economy and repairs differ with different drivers, but just assume the average driver who only needs to transport perhaps a few bags of groceries and one passenger.
Now that I think about it, a motorcycle would work too. Being lighter weight, fuel economy should be better.
