A few dirt bike/motorcycle/street legal questions?

A few dirt bike/motorcycle/street legal questions?

I've Ridden as low as 50s and as high as 600s Dirt bikes for about 3 years. This weekend I go to the state motorcycle training class (mainly to drive down the insurance cost)

What I want to know is How much would it cost to Make a Dirt bike street legal
and
What is a good bike(doesn't have to be Dirt.) that can get me around town and to work.

My job is about 27miles away with 80% of it Highway. I'm 20 and I cant make up my mind what to get between A dirt sport or cruiser.
