Chevy Cavalier, What is the difference between the check engine light

being on, and the repair engine light ? It is on a 2001 Chevy Cavalier.
There is a section behind the wheel that shows your speed, RPM , fuel level and more things, it also has a wrench like symbol that can light up , as well as a check engine light thing that looks like a little engine symbol, or maybe it is a transmission symbol, not sure, but at any rate there are two different symbols, what do these two mean? They are obviously different things and they can light up.
The proper names for the symbols that can light up, I do not know, I just know one looks like a wrench and the other looks like an engine symbol or perhaps a transmission, and they light up in orange.
