Default Mazda 2003 - P003 Oxygen sensor bank 1??

My Mazda 2003 Protege 5 car got the "engine check" light on recently. After checked from car shop, a mechanic told me that my car has to replace the Oxygen Sensor component because P003 Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 message came out. I want to replace the component by myself to save money. Could someone tell me where the exact Oxygen Sensor is in my car? What does P003 means? Is the Oxygen Sensor bank 1 before catalyic or after?
