Default 1996 Chevy Cavalier Overheating Problem?

I have recently bought a 1996 Chevy Cavalier. I started the car and took it for a ride around the block. My block is less than half a mile, and the car was over heating. So I did everything i could think of to fix the problem. I Drained the coolant system, put a new thermostat in the car. After i put the new thermostat in i put brand new coolant in, and burped the system, and filled it the rest of the way. Now the gauge goes three quaters of the way and does not over heat. I am not sure if that is how high the tempertaure is supposed to be or not. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
-Corey-
