Default Bidding on ebay..do I get my deposit back?

I want to bid on this car that requires an immediate deposit of $500 so the buyer knows that I really intend to buy it. What happens if I don't win the bid?
Do I get that $500 deposited back into my account since I can't/won't be buying the car?
Or does the dealer keep my deposit regardless?
