Towing a trailer- i have a Pontiac Torrent AWD?

I have a 2006 pontiac torrent. I need to tow a utility or cargo trailer about 450 miles. I know the torrent can hual 3,500 lbs. What kind of hitch do i need? I have a hollow square looking thing where the hitch usally is. it that a hitch or where you attach a hitch? can you rent trailer hitches? any info would be great. Thanks
