Default what could be wrong with my car (1991 lexus ls400)?

My car, a 1991 Lexus LS400, can start but is having severe power issues. I can be at 3000 rpms and only be going 30 mph which is VERY wrong. I thought maybe it had overheated so put water in it and it still is having issues. Also, when i turn on the AC it smells REALLY BAD. Does anyone know what might be wrong with it? and its having trouble switching gears
