How much would it cost to replace a timing belt/chain on a 1999 Jeep

1999 Jeep Cherokee 4 door

The cruise control don't work.

I'm female. I was wondering whenever the Jeep need a new timing belt/chain, about how much would it cost me?

How long (many years) can I go without replacing it?

Anyone know any other concerns I should have before buying this Jeep?

I know nothing about cars.

If you have timing CHAIN, they don't need to be replace.

If you have timing BELT, you are WAY over due. The recommended period is 60K miles.

As for how much, that depends what part of the country you live (and whether you take it to the dealer or an independent shop).

It's likely a 4.0L STRAIGHT 6 not a V. It has a chain and it does not need replaced. 128,000 miles is just barely broken in for those motors. Mine has 265,000 on it and I drive it every day.
