Default driving lessons?

Am having trouble passing my driving test I'm fine at road knowledge, have a licence to ride a motor bike but seem to be a bit dappy when it comes to gear changes in a car. My friend reckons I should take the automatic car driving test to get more driving experience and that the test is easier because not having to worry about the gear changes. Then when I have more road experience as a car driver - albeit automatic - I could then try having more lessons in driving a manual car. I like this idea. But, if I then take my manual driving test and, fail again, does this mean I lose my automatic car driving licence? Anyone know ? Thanks. Wannabe car driver.
