Has anyone had a problem with a five-speed manual transmission on a 2000 era Toyota Celica? My mechanic is telling me mine needs to be replaced for about $2600.00. There is definitely something wrong.

Go to another mechanic.
You can purchase a new clutch for around $200. A transmission shop will definitely be able to replace it for under $500. I had the clutch replaced on my 93 Lexus SC300 a few years ago. Total cost was $150 for the clutch, and $220 for the installation. I shopped around ... most places wanted $700+. So, $2600 is outrageous for a manual transmission. Frak, most automatic's don't cost that much. You can get an automatic trannie changed on a Celica for $1000. |
