Default 830 dollars for a bad fuel pump and fuel pump relay switch? Please share your...

...opinions and experiences. TY.? I have a GMC Jimmy 2000 with over 87000 miles on it. I had my car towed 3 days ago (free from the local shop since they also did the repairs) and now i have to pay exactly 823.00 dollars before i can drive it back home. My car needed a new fuel pump and a new fuel pump relay switch as what the shop told me. I just want to know from anyone if i'm not getting ripped off by these greedy shops (the shop is huge by the way), and if the price seems reasonable?

I don't know anything about cars besides changing the oil, oil filter and air filter as recommended.

Wow they are really messing with you. I took a quick look at google:
Fuel pump......$80...maybe $150 at most.
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/shop_parts/fuel_pump/gmc/jimmy.html

And i know the fuel pump relay is not expensive at all. Unless im looking at the wrong parts, both together should be under $200 in parts. They are taking you for a ride my friend. My advice would be to check out other places and see if they'll do it for cheaper. If not, maybe see how much they would charge for labor only and buy the parts of the internet. $830 for a fuel pump and relay is ridiculous. I cant see where (For $200 in parts) they can charge another $630. Labor is NOT that much. Even if you had to flush all the fuel lines, still shouldn't be another $630.

OH BOY..have you come to the right place! I have a 98 GMC JImmy and in Dec of 07 had to replace my fuel pump. I got 4 different estimates with 4 different stories...anywhere from $800 to $1200...dont know anything about a relay switch, but was told that the fuel filter had to be replaced at the same time because it was part of the unit and that was $75. I finally found a good shop and the total repair was $875..most of it labor. Replacing the pump is labor intensive on a Jimmy. No, the $823 is about right...I'm getting rid of this lemon asap. NEVER again will I buy a GM vehicle....nothing but repair nightmares. Jimmys, Blazers, etc.....horrible. I paid $5500 for the car in Aug 07 and have put over $2500 in repairs to it. Mine had 113,000 miles on it. Good luck to you!
