99 Dodge Durango Question?

I have a 99 dodge durango and the abs light and brake light are on and last night there was this loud noise under the hood..my dad looked and its this little box located at the top on the right. What is that damn box and how do i get it to shut off? it was running all night and didnt die down my durango..it still ran in the morning.
