Default Can You eliminat the sensor on a 1991 chevy s10 air cleaner and it still runs right?

I am basically trying to get more power i want to switch my factory closed air cleaner with the hose to an open air cleaner i was informed that if you put an open air cleaner i will gain from 5 to 7 horsepower, i want to know if you can eliminate this sensor without any problems, If necessary it has a 4.3L V6 With TBI

This is the horsepower gain predicted by K&N Filters
1991 CHEVROLET S10 Blazer 4.3L V6 TBI - All SUV FIPK 57-3028

5.58 HP @ 3963 RPM

K and N makes a good product, however, use them as a replacement for your existing air cleaner, do not try to change the design of your air cleaner system, and, no the sensor will still function and cause some trouble codes, and may adversely effect any additional horsepower you might get.

if your refering to that sensor that is in the black rubber hose up by the intake. dont disconnect it. just uhhook it from the rubber hose and set it somewhere where it wont get hot. its some kinda air temp sensor. i have a 93 with a 4.3 that is a offroad only truck and did that and it runs fine. but dont just throw it away

5 to 7 hp is the same as an 80cc scooter.

doesn't sound logical. i think all it will do is send funny signals to the computer and have the check engine light come on. i don't think the power gain will be that much either but hey, i'm not a mechanic.

The IAT or Maf sensor will have a negative effect if removed .You will be polluting if you do this and have driveability problems. These sensors help the computer determine the air fuel ratio to get the best fuel mileage. It will not pass a smog test if you do this.
