...from a private seller, for $5500 price I will be purchasing a used vehicle here in the near fututre and I was wondering what the estimated costs would be if I were to purchase a car for $5500, I already have a tag so I would just need to transfer the tag and then any taxes or other costs involved. Do you save any money going through a private owner compared to buying through a dealership, if so please explain.
No sarcastic anwers please those are not helpful!
Thanks for all who provide me with answers! I appreciate it!

Contact your department of motor vehicles. How would you expect us to know if you have not listed your state (or country)?

A purchase from a dealer is usually the same tax rate (%) if new or used. In some places used vehicle tax fee for private sales may be based on age of vehicle, because they feel people will lie anyway. Some locations might charge annual registration fee or personal property tax based on fair value.
