Default 99 Ford Explore Gas gauge light stays on and will not read the gas it will stay on E?

I was wodering if any one could help with this problem? Will it coast a lot to fix? People have been telling me its the floter on the gas tank! Is there a way to find out how to verify that?

You can check if it's the float or the gauge with an ohm meter at the gas gauge wiring connector.
