Default lemon of a late model car - what to do?

A family member owns a '06 Montego - bought it brand new off the lot. At 17K mi. the transmission went out. One day after the transmission was replaced the brakes went out. I suggest she sell the car and get a new one.

The dealership says they will repair the vehicle as it's under warrantee. That's fine, but who wants to drive a car that has the transmission and brakes both go out already?
Should she go to the mfr. for help? Should the dealer buy back the car and provide a discount on a new car? What can she negotiate? Does she have grounds to sue? She was driving on the highway both times when the car transmission and brakes went out. Luckily she didn't have the grandkids in the car at the time of the problems.

Any suggestions on getting out of this situation and into a better car without losing a lot of $$$?
Thanks!

since dealer offered to replaace the trans and the brakes there is nothing you can do all you can do is ask for the money lost in getting the car to him.. since this is gauranteed he should pay for the tow... i would give him another chance. if it happins again i would sue ok.
