looking at buying a mercedes c230. was told that anything above a 10 compression ratio would need premium gas. the c230 has 11:4:1 compression. if i used regular gas, would it hurt the car. what type of signs would i look for. i know its a benz, but i just hate having to pay an extra 20 cents to those oil idiots.

Premium gas will make your car run better because its cleaner and more refined, In turn keeping the motor etc. sludge and deposit free. It is worth the few extra cents as it also allows the car to run more efficiently, as it is purer.
