What can be the cause of the failure?

I live in California and I own a 2000 Infiniti Q45, the car has 60,000 miles and did not pass the smog test because excessive hydrocarbons, the OBDII shows no faulty codes and the check engine light is of, what can be the cause of the failure?

get it checked carefully... because Personally I think a japanese luxury such as Lexus or Infiniti not passing the smog check is a joke. I own a Mercedes and i should be worrying about that ;-P

bad catalytic converter. I think there are 2 on that car.
