VW Passat remote doesn't work and doesn't crank.?

Today I decided to move my car out of the garage and install an amp in the back. The only wires that I touched were to the battery. I tried to run a completely new wire into the middle console where the radio goes. I noticed a while afterwards that my remote to my car didn't work. But it's happened before with the remote battery being almost dead. So I went to crank it up and move it later this afternoon and it wouldn't crank at all. I don't even hear a sound of the starter clicking. The lights come on and the radio plays. What could be the problem? Thanks.
