Default Jeep 1988 model Wont start?

Ok I know nothing about cars and i went outside to crank up the jeep and it just wont start it acts like it wants to crank but it just wont start up. It was working perfect yesterday then today it dont work. any ideas all the lights come on radio still works. I can't get it to dealership because it wont crank! Will jumper cables work if the battery works?
