A 98 Subaru with LOW miles? I don't know man......? I'm 16 years old and I'm going to be driving next year when I'm 17(That's what it says in the new K53 books). I've been thinking about getting a Subaru as a 1st car for a while now, my mom is thinking about buying it for me but she wants to see a tiny improvement at school which is in process. Anyway, after some research I've narrowed down my choices to a 98 Impreza 2.0GT(116kw) or an 01-04 Legacy 2.0GX(88kw), of course they're going to be used, so I'm thinking I should get AA to come check either 1 of vehicles first before purchasing 1 of them. I want to install just an exhaust system(For performance and Scooby rumble!) and a small sound system.
Now this is the issue I want to address. 1 of my friends at school knows that I like Subarus, so he tells me that he can get me a 98 Impreza 2.0GT for a good price( about 100k) and with low mileage on it from people whom he knows. He says that the Subarus he knows have been used either as showcars or cars for Audio soundoffs, and have only been driven to the shows and back which explains the low mileage(about 20 000Km), the cars have been restored to stock form since they're going to be sold. Now I'm thinking that maybe this is too good to be true and I'm having a few not so good feelings about this, even though AA is going to check it. I've heard stories about cars that are like ten years or older with low mileages end up having mountains of mechanical problems, and yet Subaru's reliability is on par with Toyota and Honda. Are the parts available for the models mentioned?.Also I've heard that since Scoobies are now becoming available to younger drivers, does that mean it's time to dish out money for insurance? I really like Subarus and I want to own one for a 1st car,It's just THE car in every aspect. What can I do now to solve this?
