suspension lift for a chevy k1500?

i would like to lift my '96 Chevy Silverado 4x4. this is the first truck i would be lifting and i would like to know if there is any info i should know? i have stock-size tires on it on custom rims. i do not plan on getting bigger tires. i was thinking about a 2" OR 4" lift. should i get a suspension or a body lift? would you recommend a specific brand? order the shocks with the kit? also the ones ive been looking at say they will keep the "rake" look.. is this "cool" to leave alone or should i level it up too? any extra info i may need? this is mostly a highway truck with light mudding and 4-wheeling. would like to possibly do light mud competition also. thank you
