Default Are new Volkswagen beetles good first vehicles?

For years I have wanted a new volkswagen bug for my first car. then, right when my parents were about to get me one, my uncle told them that bugs break down alot and are hard to get fixed because regular mechanics won't work on them due to the difference of all the parts. so, now they're kind of weary on getting me one, and i still really want one, are bugs good first cars and is all the things my uncle said true?
