Default Peculiar Issue with 2001 Grand Am GT. Can anyone help?

Hey everyone,
I have a 2001 Grand Am GT1. A couple weeks ago, I decided to calculate my car's mileage for the first time. When I did the math (properly), I got some horrible results - 15 city, 14 highway. I tried calculated it again another time a week later and I got the same results. So I'm wondering, why is this happening? Why is my mileage so bad? I don't drive THAT hard!

I get my car checked for any leaks and there were none to be found...

Oh yeah... also, when I turn the heater on after the car has been warmed up and I'm idling, I can smell gas coming through the heater. I dunno if that's relevant, but maybe it is...

Also, I have a Flowmaster 80 series muffler on my car with tips.

Thanks for any response at all! 10 points will be be rewarded.

smell fuel you got a leak and cars not running as great as you think and mileage depends on fuel and tune up each fuel octane you buy might get different mileage with what i say is first stop at place you always fill at b fil with highest octane set mileage drive til one needs to refill at same place use next lower octane and one that gets th ebest miles right fuel octan to buy at that place then you go to next place up street do same thing do this with two places going away from house and two comingback home to know which fuel gets you the best mileage that and tune up your car and dont need to warm up a car no longer than to clear frost or ice and car warms up faster by driving it than it does just park witch does waste fuel but wouldnt have much to do with mileageits like say my nissan gets great mileage with shell high octane but gets same with mobil regular i know two types tha tmy car gets best mileage with my v8 ford truck gets better than 16 your car needs some help
