Wire up for test run? 400 pontiac?

I have a 400 pontiac just slid into my 77 trans am. I want to (hot wire) to see if she runs good before putting alot more work into the car. so just to double check. I run a power cable to the starter, negative to the block, jumper from positive on battery to positive on coil then jump off starter to the s on the selonoid and should crank right? and to get it to cut off just unhook the battery. Now if thats right does anyone have a wire diagram for a 77 trans am so i can see if all the wiring under the dash is correct.
