Question about my 1987 Volvo stalling?

When I take my foot off the accelerator and decelerate, my Volvo stalls sometimes. It does it even if the car is well warmed-up. What is it-- fuel filter, air filter, timing set wrong, old age? Thanks for your help.
Forgot to mention, it's a 740.
