Default Need help with my 1997 Jeep grand Cherokee limited?

I have a problem with my starter in my jeep. It wont engage. I hit the starter and it will turn over a couple of times and than will stop. I got a new starter and got a new solenoid and put that back together. When i try to start it the power will turn off like normal and when it turns back on the power will stay off and there will be a clicking for about 2 to 3 minutes. than it wont start.
