Default Puchase a lemon of a car?

My daughter purchase a car around 1/29/08, the car has a bad transmisson, it needs all new brakes, new rotors, struts, plus the check engine lights has been coming on since 2 weeks after she purchas the car.
The check engine lights, after 3 visit for this, they still do not know what is wrong, and now want to charge her $250 to look at it, plus they say the brakes , rotors struts were fine when she purchase the car. Which our car repair person, said there is now way there were good at purchase time.
What can we do?
She does have a extended war., but of course the dealer saids nothing is cover under the war.
Any advice as to what we should do would be a great help.
The car is use, and has 40,000 miles on it.
The car is a 2005 Chevy, Equilnox
The car was purchase at the local Chevy dealer, not just a "used car lot"
It was inspected right before she purchase the car, so, of course she didn't take it to get check. She is a 22 year old college kid that would not listen to us, she wanted the car and I feel they saw her coming.
But, I will be stepping in and talking to the Mang. of the car dealership.
Thanks all for answers.

Go to the sales manager were you bought the car tell them what happened and let them know that you will not just go away. On the other hand you did not mention what kind or year of car this is you may have to use some common sense if you bought something that is 10 years old and has 100,000 it will probably have some problems. Good luck
>>>> note Even though it was a used car If you push the situation with the people from Chevrolet may be able to help with that few miles they may even be able to do some customer satisfaction warranty work it is only 4000 miles out of warranty

"it needs all new brakes, new rotors, struts"

After 40,000 miles? What year is it? This car has either been beat to death or the odometer has been rolled back, which is illegal. Both of these should have been apparent by a good look over of the car prior to buying.

"the check engine lights has been coming on since 2 weeks after she purchase the car."

I have a reliable old Toyota pickup that does this, and have seen many other Toyos with the same problem. The problem with this is that it's integrated into the electronic ignition system and can be any one of many sensors throughout the vehicle, some important, SOME NOT. For example, there are oxygen sensors in the engine, and a pressure sensor in the gas tank. This is why it would be so costly to check this: it's really REALLY hard to diagnose.

My solution: under the passenger side kick panel is the ignition computer. Turn the car off, disconnect the three cables going to the computer for 15 seconds, and re connect them. Problem goes away for a few months.

NOTE THAT this is only a viable solution if the car is running fine and shows no degradation in performance.

Overall, yeah, you have either a lemon or the repair person is LYING to you about the rotors and brakes. Get a second opinion or just sell the thing.
