Default 2001 Monte Carlo -- Good Deal or Scam?

My husband got in a car crash and the truck was totaled. We went car looking today and we foud this 2001 Monte Carlo ss 2 dor 6-v . 28-32 MPG Black ... Nice interior 95 Thounsand Miles for $7,900,
The guy said it was owed by a coulple that did not use it much any more and sold it. Instead of giving it to their 15 year old son because they wanted to get there son something cheaper because did not want the boy to ruin it.
Does the Buy sound ok to you guys... or not?

Ok, I agree with points posted by both of the others but overall, go with your gut instinct, Yes, the sales pitch might be true, but most of the time it is just a bunch of phoey! Now, It may only be worth te 6700 the other guy said, but even so, cars sell for different in different demographic regions of the globe, as for instance I live in nc, and cant get a nice 90's civic for less than 3k, as where in texas where I used to live, I could get it for 1k easy!

No, that is overpriced. The most one should book at would be around $6700. That would be a car in beautiful condition, with significantly less miles than the one you looked at. Of course, honestly, I wouldn't buy a monte carlo unless my life depended on it. They are among the least reliable cars on the planet. Major engine problems, exhaust, power equipment, drive system, and climate system problems. This is not my opinion. This is all according to Consumerreports.org, which overall has the '01 monte carlo as much worse than average reliability ratings. Don't buy that car.

what one needs to know when buying a car is never listen to any sales pitch like that was only drove on sunday by little old lady youy what one needs to know is how to check a used car before buying one which you can type into search box how to check used car get a list to follow will help you not get a car you need to fix before you drive it... you dont look at miles ... you walk a round it look at tires look under it you check it out every button every switch check all the fluids look for wet spots check th etail pipe is it black or wet get a check list then decide more things you find on check list less likely one would buy it better way to buy used cars
