| What is a Fake Review? |
| A Fake Review is usually a review written by a dealership in order to give themselves a better ranking or competing dealer writing a poor review in order to boost their own standing. Car Dealer Check does not take Fake Reviews lightly and we do our best to catch and mark any reviews we believe may be fake. |
| How Do You Find Fake Reviews? |
- Here are a couple of the many steps we take:
- We check for similar IP's with different user names submitting reviews
- We check the email address of the reviewer
- We Check the actual content of the review - Wording, slogans, Sales Phone Numbers or Store Hours, things like that will usually flag a review.
There is not any one thing the system looks for when deciding if a review is a Fake review. It's usually a compilation of different things that sends a review to an editor for a review. The system itself cannot mark a review as Fake only a human editor after a review is flagged can make that decision.
A reader of Car Dealer Check can also alert us if they believe a review is a Fake Review. Each review has an image that looks like this  , if a reader believes the review is fake or there is any other problems with the review clicking this will alert the editors to take a look at the review. |
| What Happens with a Fake Review? |
| If we determine that a review is fake we discard all ratings from that review and void it in the review count.
We do however, keep the review on the dealers page. The Review is clearly marked that it is a Fake Review, this way a consumer can see that the dealership, dealership employee or a competitor has attempted to submit a fake review and get around the system.
The consumer can then decide if this is a dealership they would like to do business with in the future. |
| What if you Mark a Review Fake and it is not? |
| Just in case we determine that a review is Fake and it is not, the original writer and the dealership are notified and have the opportunity to dispute the status. If we determine we were in the wrong the Fake Review status is removed and all status is restored to the review. |
