Ralph Johnson provided a truly horrible experience reminiscent of a sleazy, deceptive used car salesman portrayal in the movies.
After searching for some months for a very specific high end car, I found it online at promotorcars.com and established contact. I obtained the carfax myself and Ralph provided some average quality photos and answered questions. We agreed on a price and a date and method for delivery. Ralph did not accept my offer of a deposit but did send a sales agreement. Everything was straightforward up to this point.
Then Ralph could not arrange delivery on the date promised and said he would get back to me with a date. Then he could not provide some documentation he originally claimed he had. Then he could not find a key he claimed he had. Then he could not find another part he earlier claimed he had. Then he had to delay the shipping again 'because he could not get a truck' (it is now over 1 month from the originally promised date). Then he said the delay was to 'fix some paint damage' (damage which was not mentioned before and was not in any of the photos. Finally a delivery date was set that was not cancelled the day before, and I looked forward with great anticipation to receiving this car 1.5 months after originally promised. Unfortunately the arranged time passed with no delivery. Ralph would not answer his phone when I called to see if everything was OK. The next day Ralph would not answer his phone, return my voicemails, or return my emails. A week went by with no word, the last I heard from Ralph Johnson was a promise to deliver the car on X day, which did not happen.
I contacted another dealer in the area, whom I've worked with in the past and trust more, to see if he knew what happened. He contacted me the next day and said promotorcars had sold the car to someone else and that this behavior was typical of Ralph Johnson. The other dealer said people in the area knew not to trust Ralph Johnson and avoided him, but there is a client base, like me, from much farther away that are mistreated and taken advantage of.
Overall, I found Ralph Johnson and promotorcars.com
1) made promises they had no intention of keeping,
2) either lied or made claims that were later be found to be untrue, and
3) created a very abrasive, negative image of the deceptive used car salesman that everyone abhors and avoids. He gives used car sales a very bad name.
