Saturn of Regency

My wife initially contacted the dealership via the internet as we live over 120 miles away. She spent the better part of two afternoons dealing with Rocky, the internet sales associate. My wife told him what she could pay, what her trade would be and even went through the trouble of getting pre-approved for a loan through Rocky, or so she thought. At this point she emphasized that she didn't want to drive two hours to the dealership if they couldn't get a deal done. Rocky told her that there was a vehicle there that matched what we were looking for. It was a brand new 2 year old Outlook that they never sold and were trying to get rid of. New, fully loaded and deeply discounted. This isn't so hard to believe as Saturn dealerships are chocked full of last year's models these days. He said that the numbers would work and to come on down. So my wife calls to make an appointment. Rocky tells her that he won't be there and to ask for Dave.

My wife and I get up at 7 am and wash/clean our trade in then drive the two hours to Jacksonville. We're worried b/c we're running about 1/2 hour late from when we said we'd be there. When we get there we ask for Dave and told him that we had been talking to Rocky. Dave couldn't care less if we'd have been talking to the almighty himself. He quickly passed us off to a sales guy. It quickly became apparent that these people didn't have a clue who we were or what we'd been talking to Rocky about for two days. I pried into the identity and location of said "Rocky". It turns out Rocky works remotely. Apparently the massive amount of time my wife had spent with him on the phone over the previous two days going over inventory/stock numbers, finance approval, and pricing was all a ploy to get people in the door.

At this point I decide to bite my lip and look at the vehicle we had driven so long to see. I see the window sticker is for $38,000. The numbers Rocky was talking to my wife about would have put it in the 26,000 range. I figure it might be heavily discounted as it's been sitting at the dealership for over two years. Or had it? As I look at the front of the vehicle, I noticed about 2 dozen pock marks and rock chips. I ask them how many miles are on it. They tell me about 7000 miles. Then, nonchalantly tell me it was a demo. In two days of talking w/ Rocky, this was never mentioned to my wife. After expressing my displeasure, Bob, the dealer manager actually had the gall to engage me in a conversation about how it was a new vehicle. No Bob, regardless of the title, a vehicle with 7000 miles on it and a front end that looks like it's fired upon by some .315 grain buckshot is not new. Had I not said anything, I have zero doubt that they'd have sold it to us without ever mentioning a thing. I can picture the shock now as some poor fool looks down at the odometer on their way home from the dealership to see seven thousand miles on it. Bob told me that he's discounting the car down to 31K. Wow. 31K for a three year old saturn with 7000 miles on it. Dealers all over the place were discounting '08 Outlooks up to 8K without breaking a sweat. I'd had enough.

The posting guidelines say I need to refrain from name calling, so I'll say that the on-site sales guy (not Rocky) was nice enough, but the people running this show are (rhymes with coush dags). I don't believe for a second that this was some type of misunderstanding. In the end they wasted 8 hours of my precious Saturday and $50 worth of gas. If I could take it out of them, I would. If you value your time, money and integrity you need to stay away.
