Purchased Jeep Grand Cherrokee new for $38,000 in 01 and had it serviced every 3 moths for 11 years and had all the maintenence done there. Last month they said I needed a Catalytic converter which they said it would cost $3,163 to replace. I just had the work done at a respectable repair shop for $1,076 for rwo converters. This dealership wanted to charge me 3005 more? More important I was looking for a new vehcile and knocked on the door of the General Manager and asked for help as the Internet dept. wasn’t too helpful and he immediately became irrate and started yelling at me calling me a liar. I am a 76 year old doctor who is not used to street fighting and was appaled at this behavior. I tried to contact the owner “Dealing Doug” and left a message but of course I never heard back from him but have heard he would have only condoned this behavior by his top manager. I will never return to this dealership and will tell all of my friends to avoid it at all costs.
Buyer Beware – Colorado Chrysler Jeep
Dishonest up-selling wrapped into final sales and finance packaging. This dealer lures clients in with good initial pricing on vehicles and then plays on the client emotions of a new car purchase to rush you through the finalization of the deal. They are not honest nor have integrity in their business dealings, do not believe that the person across the table from you has integrity or your best interest at heart the only thing they care about is making as much money as they can off of you in that deal. I know what a concept especially with car dealers.
I walked into this dealer on March 27, 2012 knowing the vehicle I was going to purchase and already had price confirmed through internet shopping, I was pre-approved for my loan so things were going good.
Where I went wrong was allowing Colorado Chrysler Jeep opportunity to put together a financing package better than the one I had already obtained. They came back with a financing deal that was better than my pre-approval if accessed by percentage alone so I told them proceed.
When I went in to finalize the deal Stephanie the Financing Specialist stated that they were getting me a great rate through a credit union (this turned out to be untrue – financed through Chrysler Financial/ TD Auto Finance) but to obtain the rate I needed to purchase some add on warranties for window & dent protection, roadside assistance as well as wheel and tire protection which cost approx. $10 per month (also an untrue statement) she clearly reviewed these warranties with me and I had no major issues with these add ons as they were clearly identified (total cost of $1090 or 3.2% of purchase price). After this I was quickly run through the multitude of signatures required to finalize the purchase and sent on my way – happy with my new vehicle.
Yes I acknowledge that I am to blame as I signed the papers but in my defense there was not full disclosure on the part of Colorado Chrysler Jeep.
The thing that bothers me is that I am a pretty intelligent individual who functions as a business professional on a daily basis and I fell for this, so how many others have fallen for it. This is predatory behavior on the part of Colorado Chrysler Jeep so I am writing this to warn buyers before they fall prey.
The problem came two days later when I was reviewing my paperwork to make sure that I got my payment set up for auto pay. Upon a more detailed review of the documents it was found that they had also tacked on a $3000 extended warranty (fidelity JM&A) which I did not ask for as well as glass etching for $287 which I did not ask for (total $3287 or 9.83% or purchase price).
Below is a break-down of the numbers:
Had pre-approval for purchase of the vehicle for 10%
Colorado Chrysler Jeep finance package 6.48% with add on’s cost of $4,377 or 13.3% of purchase price for which I will receive very little if anything (not such a great deal)
The thing that gets me is that this dealer sold me these warranties 2 without disclosing them or for me asking for them on a vehicle which already had a factory warranty.
Upon discovery of this I contacted the dealer and spoke to Stephanie (finance Specialist) who stated that the warranty was required to get the financing package I recieved. This is pretty funny as the one page warrant document included in my papers stated the following “THE PURCHASE OF THIS SERVICE CONTRACT IS NOT REQUIRED IN ORDER TO OBTAIN FINANCING OR TO PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE”. I also requested that she send me some information on the warranty as nothing other than a one page document was provided with my paperwork which did not explain any coverage and that I would like to know what I had spent $3000 on. She stated that I should receive this information in the mail but as of this date I have still not received anything.
Due to this fact I had to do an on-line search for the provider of this warranty whose website states the following on its homepage “JM&A Group’s line of specially designed F&I products and programs allow dealers to increase profit margins on every vehicle sold” Certainly the case with my purchase.
Colorado Chrysler Jeep in my opinion employs predatory and deceitful business practices to maximize profits on the backs of their customers.
Review my first post and see where I had a trim issue on my new car that was never and still has never been addresses or even responded to…
These guys are the poste children of exactly what’s always been wrong with car dealers…GREED, GREED, GREED and once they’ve got your money, they don’t give a genuine sh## about you or your purchase!!!
I bought a brand new car from this dealer just a few months ago and dropped over 30k; so what did I get for my money?
Not a whole helluva lot!?!?!
First, they “bait and switched” my financing deal (lienholder info.) on me (classic dealer move as I confirmed this with a lawyer). BEWARE#1!!!
Second, they boldly denied this issue (as expected)…luckily I kept both sets of paperwork… BEWARE #2!!!
When I contacted the General manager, he said he’d resolve the issue…never heard back from him and in fact, he had the Finance department return my call to try to schmooze over everything; this department is the whole damn problem I’m having!?!?! BEWARE#3!!!
Plus, the veteran Finance manager is an ego-manical fool that enjoys talking down to people and when you try to explain your point, he hangs up on you and avoids all future calls…BEWARE#4!!!, #5, #6, #7, …let’s face it: if it takes more points than this and you still choose to do business with this specific Chrysler Dealer, you probably deserve to get ripped off and shouldn’t be driving in the first place?!?!!?
I had to take care of my proper payment with the new lienholder myself because this dealer refused to help…BEWARE#100-odd!!!
When I mentioned that the freaking trim was coming off the brand new car I just bought…no return call or care at all – I had to fix it myself because no one has ever returned that call either!…BEWARE#110-odd!!!
BOTTOM-LINE: Regardless of the amount of money you spend, a car dealer, especially these days, should treat you with respect and praise for wanting to do business with them instead of classically being…CAR DEALERS like these IDIOTS!!!
If you’ve been “baited and switched”, let us know here and maybe we can put the squeeze on dealers like this by getting some long overdue changes made to how car dealers do business with the people that keep them in business…!
TRULY: DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS CAR DEALER! ALL-AROUND BAD NEWS!!!
PART2:
Like me, contact the Dealer Board first to file a complaint, then: Contact CHRYSLER HQ! This is by far, NOT a “Five Star” Dealer!!!
Contact the Secretary of State, the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Regulatory Agencies, and the BBB for good measure…
These guys don’t deserve the business I brought and handed to them on a silver platter and if it was worth my time returning the car I bought, I’d fight to do so but THEY ARE NOT WORTH MY TIME ANYMORE!!!
Now, I’m going to take up some more of their precious time by filing complaints and knowing they can’t argue a case for themselves because them simply admitting that they are a$$holes, unfortunately, isn’t a crime…but they’re close!!! Be careful out there people and take care! Protect yourselves and your money! We deserve much better!
If we stop doing business with places like this, maybe they’ll get the hint!
I legally represent my older disabled sister, whose car it is that I bought on her behalf. I have recently heard back in writing from the Colorado Attorney General’s office with regards to this dealership’s business practices. This office has personally forwarded my complaint on to the Colorado Dealer Board for official review.
The issue: The dealer had me sign a legal document for the amount of my trade-in payoff that I agreed to; same as with any other buyer. This is in all standard car purchase paperwork.
The problem: This dealer deliberately paid off a much lower amount than what I agreed to and this fact was confirmed with documentation provided to me by my former lienholder. I discovered this by accident but now this dealer must come clean on my car purchase and possibly, yours!
Do yourself a favor and simply get a copy of your trade-in payoff amount; a copy of the check your dealer sent to your former car lienholder and compare this amount to the amount the dealer had you sign for…do they match?
Bottom-line: This dealer is bad news! 😡 I work hard like anyone else and I made this sale as easy as possible for this dealer and they still screwed this up so that’s their fault and they shouldn’t profit from their behavior and they won’t!
