I contacted Carrie Robinson at Hendrick Honda of Charleston through Autobytel.com. Standard protocol with autobytel is that the dealership will then email you their "best price" for the car that you are looking for. Carrie instead emailed me and said that her dealership was in the process of having a clearance sale where "all reasonable offers would be accepted". She also said that her dealership was offering 0% financing for up to 72 months on new vehicles which was very appealing to me as I had been unable to find anything like this at any of the other dealerships. She noted that both the sale and the financing deals ended on Saturday 10/31/09, so I would need to hurry in if I wanted to take advantage of these offers. I lived about 2 hours away from the dealership, so I wanted to make sure that I would be approved for the 0% APR. I paid money to check my credit score online and was told that financing would not be a problem for me. I then wanted to make sure that my offer on the vehicle would be accepted. I told Carrie several times what I would offer for the vehicle based on what other dealerships had told me would be their "best price", but Carrie would never tell me whether or not my price would be accepted. She said that I could come down to Charleston and we could work up the numbers. On 10/30/09 (the day I was supposed to go to the dealership), I called to speak with Carrie directly and was told that she was off that day (although she was supposed to be working). I spoke with another sales representative who then spoke with the general manager. I was told that there was no way that they could come close to matching the price that I had planned to offer and I should take that price from one of the other dealerships. It was very frustrating to waste so much time and energy on a deal that never had the potential to work in the first place.
About as pleasant as one gets when purchasing a new vehicle. Didn't have the particular car we needed, but had one in two days. The only complaint ( I realize these are the cash cows of automotive) is the vast array of add-ons presented. I was totally bored with unnecessary presentations I wasn't interested in. Overall, the experience was very good and all the personnel were courteous and helpful.
“I happened to visit Hendrick Honda of Charleston the other day. I was not sure which Honda would suit my needs. But I was very impressed with the salespersons. They explained the features of every Honda that interested me and allowed me to test all the Honda models. It didn’t take me long to decide and I bought a new 2008 Honda Element. My car is doing great. I am glad I visited this dealer.”
