Dear Reader-
Be careful. I made the mistake of asking my wife to take her one year old BMW for service as I believed not much could happen. After all, the warranty covered full service. WRONG. The friendly service advisor told her this is really not the case and proceded to push her to buy a $299 alignment (Tire Kingdom price $100) as well as a $200 fuel injection sevice not under wrranty because "Miami gasoline was bad." She also complained of a stuck CD that was there since she got the car.
Needless to say, when my wife called me I prmptly called the advisor and cancelled the fuel injector service as unnecessary and it was too late to cancel the triple price alignment. He then responded that the stuck CD removel was going to cost me "about $500". That's when I knew exactly what I was dealing with. Sure enough, it did. The very same service that at a competing dealer previously said to me "no charge, my pleasure sir."
The bottom line is this. Certainly if you are a woman, or maybe a disinterested looking man as well, you are the target and you are going to pay if you are not very careful. Because the SERVICE ADVISOR is in reality a SERVICE SALESMAN hiding behind a helpful smile and the labor rate you pay is much higher and more desireable than BMW pays for warranty work. After all, someone has to make up the difference.
